Rehabilitation and Chronic Pain

Rehabilitation

The focus of rehabilitation is to restore body movement and function, maximize independence and daily life participation, and address self-management of chronic conditions.

Anyone who has experienced injury or prolonged illness would benefit from rehabilitation services. Some common conditions treated are stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, spinal cord injury, brain injury, cerebral palsy, rheumatoid arthritis, cancer, cognitive impairment, and chronic pain.

I utilize a client-centered approach and help you identify your goals and work to achieve them. With over a decade of experience in rehabilitation, I also use knowledge of Mechanical Diagnosis Therapy (MDT), non-pharmacological treatment of spasticity, pain neuroscience, principles of Lifestyle Redesign, and early intervention methods in evaluation and treatment.

Chronic Pain

The goal of chronic pain therapy is to help you understand and treat the underlying cause of your pain. This type of therapy can help you learn to manage, reduce, or completely abolish your symptoms.

I use an evidence-based treatment approach drawing from my education on pain neuroscience to treat pain from a top-down approach and address the root cause of pain which can be from the brain physiologically affecting the body. The brain often uses pain as a protective mechanism and can get involved in the cycle of pain when someone has experienced it persistently.

Treatment is holistic and includes education, functional activity participation, exercise prescription, and lifestyle changes as well as strategies to address nervous system health and emotional regulation.
